Capoeira for Kids

By Capoeira Malandragem - Posted on 28 July 2008

Capoeira is an art form that combines music, singing, dance, martial art and acrobatics.

It is also culture, exercise and self-discipline. We believe children like a challenge, like to be noticed and praised, to learn new things and have fun.
Capoeira can offer all that and more.

It develops self confidence and assertiveness in the child, teaching them discipline, co-operation within the group and to have a positive attitude towards other children.<

Capoeira is played inside a circle of friends clapping and singing to the rhythm of traditional percussion instruments that have been used since the beginning of Capoeira.

ABOUT THE SESSION

The session is an hour long and it involves the following:

  • Warm Ups- Jumping, running, Stretching, coordination games etc.
  • Capoeira movements routines- They will be taught the Ginga (Foot work of Capoeira), Kicks, Carwheels, Head Stands, Handstands, Roly-poly etc.
  • Music- The children will be introduced to the percussion instruments of Capoeira (Tamborins, Agogos, Drums etc.).
  • We also encourage the children to sing in Portuguese the traditional Capoeira songs.
