The Sonoran Arthropod Studies Institute (SASI) has exciting news!
On the fourth Saturday of every month, we have our gate wide open to the public. from 9am-3pm for SASI's Community Day. It is a day full of activities including nature walks, guest speakers, workshops, presentations, and inter-generational activities for families. SASI's Butterfly Garden Guild also meets on this day to enrich the days activities!

On Saturday, May 27th, the schedule is:
9am Gate opens
9:15-10:15am Butterfly Walk by Mary Klinkel
10:30-11:30am Slide show by Jim Honcoop "Sulphurs of the Foothills"
12:00-1:00pm Potluck lunch
12:00-3:00pm Activity Tables - Live caterpillars and butterfly eggs under the microscope as the season permits, coloring, arts, and crafts for kids, face painting, seeds for butterfly food plants.
1:00-2:00pm Live arthropod presentations
1:00-3:00pm Workshop by John Rhodes and David Kha - Crickets have been kept as pets traditionally for thousands of years. Their cages hung on beds in ancient Greece so that their sweet singing could be a lullaby. The Chinese make elaborate cricket cages and stage cricket fights! Learn the life cycle of crickets, how to tell males from females, and how to care for these interesting pets.

SASI is a twenty-year-old non-profit education, conservation, and research organization dedicated to replacing fear of arthropods with understanding and respect.

Our headquarters (including a laboratory with a living collection of arthropods, classroom, access to hiking trails, office, and library) is located in the heart of Tucson Mountain Park. We are one of Tucson's best kept secrets!

Please tell everyone you know about SASI's Community Day!
