One of my very good friends has co-founded a wonderful new organization, Project Backpack. The following is an email I received from Erin regarding her new project:

"Project Back Pack has gotten a lot of press and is in fact spreading to communities nationally. I was one of 2 original volunteers and "brain stormers" with Steve Kantor (whose daughter came up with the idea of kids helping kids by donating their own back packs) and Lisa Cohen. I plan to continue my commitment to the organization after this "first wave" is completed and we see the bags received both at the DC Armory, Slidell, Houston and in other locations.

Our son is 3 1/2 years old and has been having difficulty with his speech. He is frustrated at school and often becomes physical when he really just wants to communicate with his friends. Because of a very perceptive preschool teacher I called our pediatrian and requested a speech evaluation through our insurance. The evaluation came back that he is in need of physical therapy, but Pacificare is denying coverage.
