MIT and Harvard announce edX

Joint venture builds on MITx and Harvard distance learning; aims to benefit campus-based education and beyond

Harvard University and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) today announced edX, a transformational new partnership in online education. Through edX, the two institutions will collaborate to enhance campus-based teaching and learning and build a global community of online learners.

Call to Order, Approval of Agenda, and  Approval of Minutes

The meeting was called to order and thanks were given to Century Link and ILinc Communications

The agenda and minutes were approved without changes.

Board Members

Michele reviewed continuing board member nominations. Michele, Maggie, and Craig Ward were re-elected as board members. A slate of officers was elected: Maggie and Michele, co-chairs; Steven Moore, secretary; and Steve Bannick, Treasurer.

Financial Report

Maggie provided the financial report. $1700 are in the coffers; GAZeL is owed $500 by Joe.

Maggie indicated that she would meet with Steve Bannick to transfer treasurer responsibilities.

Digital Arizona Council (DAC) Meeting Reminder - May 10, 2012 (2:00-4:00 PM)

Digital Arizona Council Interested Parties:   As previously announced, the Digital Arizona Council (DAC) will hold its next meeting in Phoenix, open to the public, on Thursday, May 10th, beginning at2:00 PM. The expected conclusion of the meeting will be at 4:00 PM. We hope you plan to join us for this important meeting and look forward to seeing you. Meeting agenda will be sent by separate email in the coming weeks.   We are pleased to announce Mr. Blair Levin, Executive Director Gig.U, will attend and present to the Council. Mr. Levin became Communications & Society Fellow with the Aspen Institute Communications and Society Program on May 10, 2010, following his departure from the FCC, where he served as the Executive Director of the Omnibus Broadband Initiative. In his role at the FCC, Mr. Levin oversaw the development of the Congressionally mandated National Broadband Plan. Previously, Mr. Levin served as Chief of Staff to FCC Chairman Reed Hundt from December 1993 through October 1997 where he oversaw the implementation of the historic 1996 Telecommunications Reform Act, the first spectrum auctions, the development of digital television standards, and the Commission’s Internet initiative.
